My first visit to the gynecologist

When you reach puberty, you need to take care of your body in a different way. It's good to be a always aware that everything about your adulthood and reproductive health in general is going well. For this visit to the gynecologist is necessary at this time full of changes.

Why I should visit a gynecologist?

By visiting a gynecologist, you will know your body, changing and how to take care of. Also understand what is "normal" so that we can recognize any problem, and deal with them before they worsen.
Usually, it should be the first visit between the age of thirteen and fifteen. However, if you are having problems with menstruation such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or if the menstrual cycle is regular for more than two years, you should visit a gynecologist as soon as possible ..

What should I expect during the first visit?

Normal to feel worried about your first visit. But most of them will go probably in the conversation! Your doctor may ask questions about your lifestyle and family history to assess your needs better.

You also may ask questions! Do not feel ashamed - all kinds of questions your doctor imaginable has heard. You should be able to ask about everything that concerns you about menstruation, or others of the matters relating to the weight, acne or emotional changes.

There are no special preparations for the first of your consultation: bathed only, wash the intimate region as usual.

- If you came down menstruation, there is no need to cancel your appointment. It is still possible to your appointment.
However, if you feel uncomfortable, you can postpone the deadline.

Special examination gynecological

Like any other doctor, gynecologist will start measuring your weight and blood pressure measurements, and then make a simple abdomen examination, by massaging the stomach area and asked if you feel pain or sensitivity in any area.

After that, your doctor will examine the breasts to check for the presence of any blocs or feeling pain.

If you do not have any particular problems of reproductive health, maybe your examination ends at this point. And the doctor may recommend doing a blood test as part of routine. But if you have problems with menstruation or PMS, or if you suffer from any pain, bleeding and has no apparent reason, an unusual discharge or discomfort, it is likely that the doctor examines the pelvis.

Speculum
During the examination of the pelvic area, the doctor will examine the vulva, or external genitalia, and then uses an instrument called a speculum to verify that the ovaries and uterus are fine. You may feel some slight pressure, but try to relax as much as possible. Put in mind that the examination of the pelvic area completely safe, and will not affect you in any way ..

The first visit to the gynecologist may cause tension, but you can always count on your mother or your sister to help you feel more comfortable
